Nestlé Purina PetCare has promoted Steven L. Crimmins to vp and CMO of U.S. Pet Foods—a newly created position. Crimmins, who previously served as the company's vp-marketing, dog food, will oversee Purina PetCare's dog food, cat food and snack brands.

Crimmins joined Purina in 1984 as brand manager of new products. Over the years, he served as director of marketing for Purina's Dog Food brands, and in 2003, was named vp-marketing for dog food, super premium brands and new products.

"Steve Crimmins is a 25-year marketing veteran at Purina and has been particularly instrumental in building our branded dog portfolio over the years," said Terence E. Block, president of Purina Pet Foods, North America, in a statement. "Steve has been a catalyst for innovation and renovation, and is well-suited for the chief marketing officer position." Crimmins will report to Block.

Additionally, Purina has appointed John Vella as svp of PetCare Global Strategic Business Unit and R&D. Vella was formerly vp of marketing, cat food and pet snacks for Nestlé Purina PetCare, and will replace Denis Aba, who will retire. Vella's new post is effective December 1.
